AN HOUR BEFORE THE BLESSED SACRAMENT 

                   SECTION 1

Hymn . (sing any short hymn you know)

Leader : Come , Holy Spirit , fill the hearts of your faithful; 

All : And enkindle in them the fire of your love . 

Leader : Send forth your spirit , Lord , and make us a new creation . 

All : And through us renew the face of the earth .

 Leader : Let us pray for a few moments in silence , making an act of deep faith in the real presence of Jesus Christ here before us in the monstrance with all the graces of salvation .

     ( Pause for silent prayer ) 

All: Lord Jesus I believe that you are truly present in the Blessed Sacrament - as truly as you were present in Bethlehem - or on the Cross at Calvary - or on the Day of your Resurrection ; as truly as you are present with the Father and the Holy Spirit in Heaven. I do not see you with my eyes - but firmly believe , Lord , because you have said it. I believe , Lord , but strengthen my belief in you . Jesus , my Lord and my God. My God and my all . You are the Christ, the Son of the living God. Lord , to whom shall we go ? You have the words of eternal life.

      ( Pause for silent prayer )

An Act of Spiritual Communion 

All : O Jesus , I desire with all my heart to receive you into my soul. Since I am not able now to receive you in the Sacrament of your love , come at least spiritually into my soul . Take possession of my heart , my mind , my will , so that , for the remainder of my days I may live with your life . 

Leader : Lord Jesus , we have come to you today , that you may make us able to walk in your light . to act in your strength ; to think in your wisdom ; to speak in your truth ; to live in your love.

All: Lord Jesus , who said : ' I am the way , show us today , the way we ought to go . Lord Jesus , who said : ' I am the truth ' , show us the truth we ought to know . Lord Jesus , who said : ' I am the life , show us what real life is.

Leader : Lord , what we know not , teach us ; what we have not , give us ; what we are not , make us.

All : Be with us , Lord , this day , to teach us what we ought to know ; to tell us what we ought to do : to make us what we ought to be. 

Leader : Grant , Lord , that this time we spend with you , may send us out more kind to others , more honest with ourselves ; more loyal to you.

All : Help us , Lord , to find here today : -Wisdom to know what is right and strength to do what is right. Enlighten our minds with your truth , warm our hearts with your love , fill our lives with your power , that we may go from here to live for you . 

       (Reading and Meditation)

Leader : In a marvellous way , God has called each of us to serve him . Long before we ever thought of serving him , he had picked us out as his chosen ones . Before the world was made , we were in the mind of God given a special task , the task of bringing Christ to the world . Let us now listen to the words of Jeremiah , wherein God tells Jeremiah how he is already set apart for a special task before he is even born . These words are addressed by God to us too . 

Reader : Jeremiah , 1 : 4-10 . Let us reflect on this reading , applying it to ourselves . 

( Pause for Meditation ) 

Leader : I , the Lord your God , teach you what is for your good , and lead you in the way you should go . 

All : I can do all things in Him who strengthens me .

 Leader : No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draw him . 

All : I can do all things in Him who strengthens me . 

Leader : To you is given to know the mystery of the Kingdom of Heaven .

All : I can do all things in Him who strengthens me.

Leader : Do you not know that you are the temple of God and the Spirit of God lives in you ? 

All : I can do all things in Him who strengthens me . 

Leader : For you are a people sacred to the Lord your God . He has chosen you from all the nations of the earth , to be a people especially his own. 

All : Glory be to the Father , and to the Son and la the Holy Spirit . As it was in the beginning . now , and ever shall be , world without end Amen . 

                         SECTION II 

The Fifth Joyful Mystery of The Rosary:

 The Finding in The Temple:

Leader : Christianity is simply the search for Jesus and it is a life's work . The secret of the Rosary is that it brings me face to face with Jesus : it helps me to find him in the inner temple of my being . For three days , Mary and Joseph searched for him ; for me it is a continual discovery and re - discovery , and in every round of the beads I find him anew .

Reader : Luke 2 : 41-52 . 

( Then follows a Decade of The Rosary ) 

All : O Mary , through the agony of your three - day search , may I obtain the grace to find Jesus in the inner temple of my own existence and in every human being I meet on the road of life . May I find him in sick bodies and in troubled minds , in the frightened and the frustrated , in all things true and beautiful , and in everyone filled with the joy of living . Along every path may I find him for he is the end of all our searching . Amen . 

Bidding Prayers 

( Usual response : Lord graciously hear us )

Leader : We are all Christ's ministers in the world , Most people will meet Christ only through us . Let us ask now that each of us will be the means of leading people to Christ ; and that never , by our words , unwillingness or bad example , will we lead people away from Him . 

1. We pray for the Church throughout the world , that she may be guided by the Holy Spirit to bear witness to the truth and love of Christ . Lord hear us . 

2. We pray for our Holy Father , Pope Francis , for our Bishop and for all the Bishops that they may have the grace and courage to guide and nourish the flock entrusted to their care fearlessly before an unbelieving world . Lord hear us . 

3. For all Priests , Brothers and Sisters working at home or abroad , that the example of their lives may inspire others to imitate them . Lord hear us . 

4. Vocations to the Religious Life come from homes which are alive with the spirit of faith . Grant us such homes , with parents whose faith will inspire their children . Lord hear us . 

5. Let us pray for ourselves , and for all here present , that we may have the grace to follow Christ faithfully by performing our tasks according to his teaching , and for love of him . Lord hear us. 

Leader : O God our Father , in your mercy grant us the grace to know Christ more fully to love him more deeply and to follow him more closely .

All : Amen . 

Leader : Pray therefore the Lord of the harvest to send labourers into his harvest. 

All : O Jesus send labourers into your fields , which are awaiting holy apostles , saintly priests , heroic missionaries , gentle and tireless sisters . Enkindle in the hearts of young men and young women the spark of a vocation . Grant that Christian families may desire to be dis tinguished by giving to your Church helpers in the work of tomorrow .

Third Glorious Mystery : Descent of the Holy Spirit.

Leader : As we pray today for a new Pentecost in the Church , let us consider , in the Third Glorious Mystery of The Rosary , how the Holy Spirit came down on the Apostles.

Reader : John , Chapter 14. Verses : 1 ; 15-18 ; 23 ; 25-27 . 

(A Decade of The Rosary)

Leader : The Spirit of God brings a two - fold gift : vision for the mind ; courage for the heart . These are the gifts that perfect the mind and strengthen the will. The men who lead and the millions who follow , need the light that comes from above : " Where there is no vision , the people perish . " They need strength above their fickle ways ; for if men of vision do not stand up , truth and freedom perish .

All : Come , Holy Spirit , cast your fire on the earth . You are a fire that shines through the night , that burns through the day . Open my eyes that I may see things unseen ; inflame my heart that as your instrument I may cast fire on the damp earth . O Mary , noble Bride of the Spirit , teach me to surrender to the divine light and to the divine love as you did ; so that I may no longer grope in the dark or falter or grow faint - hearted in my own weakness.

 Leader : Come O Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful.

All : And enkindle in them the fire of your love . Jesus present here before me , listen to my prayer . I speak to you through your Mother's Rosary . Give us the knowledge and love of you that she had . Keep us always close to your sacred heart . 

                 SECTION III 

Prayer for Grace

Leader : Let us pray for the grace to love our fellow men with unselfish hearts:

All : Give us Lord , at all times- love for others so that we may never refuse an appeal for help , so that we may help even before we're asked for help ; so that we may never do any thing which would hurt or injure anyone else -in mind or body : -so that we may find our joy in service - not in selfishness ; -in giving , not in getting - in sharing , not in keeping .

Leader : Let us pray for the grace of generosity in God's service : 

All : Lord , teach me to be generous - Teach me to serve you as you deserve ; - to give and not to count the cost ; -to fight and not to think of wounds ; -to work and to look for no reward -except to know that I do your will.

 Leader : As apostles of Jesus Christ , let us pray for the power to bring His peace to others:

All : Lord , make me an instrument of Thy peace . Where there is hatred , let me sow love . Where there is injury , let me sow pardon . Where there is doubt , let me sow faith . Where there is despair , let me sow hope. Where there is darkness, let me give light. Where there is sadness, let me give joy.

O Divine Master , grant that I may not try to be comforted , but to comfort . Not try to be understood , but to understand . Not to try to be loved , but to love. Because it is in giving that we receive . It is in forgiving that we are forgiven and it is in dying that we are born into eternal life:

Leader : Let us pray for the grace of steadfastness in God's service:

All : Give us Lord , a steadfast heart which no un worthy affection may drag downwards . Give us an unconquered heart , which no tribulation can wear out . Give us an upright heart , which no unworthy motive may tempt aside . Bestow on us also , Lord , our God , understanding to know you ; diligence to seek you ; wisdom to find you and a faithfulness that may finally embrace you for all eternity . Amen .

Prayer for others 

Leader : Let us pray now for other people:

All : Dear Jesus , bless all those who are facing trouble tonight . 

Bless - Those who are sad because someone they love has died today:

Bless -Those who are anxious because some one they love is ill today : 

Bless -Those who are lonely because some one they love left home today .

Bless - Those who are tired because they have have too much to do : 

Bless-Those who are poor and badly paid and have to do without the things they really need:

Bless -Those who are unhappy because someone has been unkind or cruel to them . 

Bless - Those who are ill and cannot sleep tonight because of pain : 

Bless -Those who are far away from home , many of them your missionaries , who sometimes grieve and are filled with anxiety for parents who are getting old : 

Bless - Those whom I love . Bless these particularly and keep them always in your loving care . 

Help me never to forget the needs of others , who are so much worse off than I am: those who are hurt by an uncaring world. Amen .
