My dear brothers and sisters in Christ,

Today, as we gather as the God of Armies prayer community, let us reflect on the importance of spiritual disciplines in deepening our relationship with God and fortifying our faith. By engaging in practices such as fasting, Bible study, and meditation, we can draw closer to the Lord and experience His transformative power in our lives.

Fasting is an ancient spiritual discipline that fosters self-control, humility, and dependence on God. Through fasting, we deny our fleshly desires and create space for spiritual nourishment. As Jesus said, "But when you fast, anoint your head and wash your face, that your fasting may not be seen by others but by your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you" (Matthew 6:17-18).

Bible study is another vital spiritual discipline that equips us with the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God (Ephesians 6:17). By immersing ourselves in Scripture, we gain wisdom, discernment, and a deeper understanding of God's character. As we study the Bible, we are reminded of God's faithfulness throughout history and are inspired to trust in His promises for our lives.

Meditation, or contemplative prayer, invites us to quiet our minds and listen for the still, small voice of God. Through this practice, we cultivate inner peace and learn to recognize the presence of the Holy Spirit within us. As St. Teresa of Avila once said, "Prayer is an intimate sharing between friends...we shouldn't be thinking of God, but speaking with Him—crying, laughing, sharing everything."

These spiritual disciplines are not merely obligations but opportunities to grow in faith and deepen our connection to the God of Armies. As we commit to these practices, let us remember that it is not by our own strength but by the grace of God that we are transformed.

May the Holy Spirit empower us to embrace these spiritual disciplines as we seek to know and love the Lord more intimately. And through the intercession of our Blessed Mother Mary and the saints, may we be strengthened in faith as we walk in the footsteps of our Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.
