What He Did for Me That Made Me Love Him

God is my life support in this world. Each time I call upon Him in prayer, He never delays in coming to my aid. His love for me is as deep and tender as a mother’s love for her child. The Lord draws near to those who seek Him, filling them with the gift of His Holy Spirit, our Comforter, who renews and strengthens us.

The Story of Edward and His Wife

Edward was a man weighed down by the burdens of life. Though he was raised in a Christian home by loving parents, life’s challenges caused him to stray from his faith. After getting married, Edward faced numerous trials in his relationship with his wife. Despite his efforts to maintain harmony, their marriage was fraught with tension and misunderstandings.

One recurring issue was his wife’s tendency to withdraw emotionally. At times, she would avoid speaking to him for days. This ongoing conflict left Edward feeling hopeless. One day, after a particularly heated argument, Edward’s wife left home without informing him of her whereabouts. Overwhelmed with worry, Edward began searching for her, enlisting the help of friends.

After two days, they found her at her parents’ home. When questioned, she explained, “My husband and I are not on good terms, so I didn’t want him to know where I was.” This response deeply hurt Edward and embarrassed his friends. When she eventually returned home, Edward, exhausted and disheartened, declared that he wanted a divorce.

His wife was stunned. She hadn’t anticipated such a decision. Seeking guidance, she turned to a close friend, who advised her to consult their parish priest. The next day, she visited the priest, who encouraged her to first make a heartfelt confession. During this process, the priest taught her the importance of letting go of resentment and anger, and of embracing humility, forgiveness, and selflessness, as Christ exemplified.

The priest reminded her of Ephesians 4:31-32: “Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor and slander be put away from you, along with all malice. Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.”

She also meditated on 1 Corinthians 13:4-5: “Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful.”

Encouraged by the priest’s counsel, she embarked on a six-day retreat, during which she reflected on her actions and sought God’s grace to transform her heart. With her friend’s support, she returned home with a renewed spirit and apologized to Edward with tears in her eyes. For the first time, she expressed genuine remorse for her actions.

Edward was astonished by the sincerity of her apology and the visible change in her demeanor. He listened as she shared the lessons she had learned about forgiveness, humility, and living a Christ-centered life. Moved by her transformation, Edward forgave her, and they resolved to rebuild their marriage together.

They began attending church regularly, seeking to grow in faith and love. They discovered the profound truth of Galatians 2:20: “I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.” Together, they realized that only by living out the teachings of Christ could their marriage flourish. Their home became a place of peace and joy as they committed to walking in God’s ways.
